Prafulla Chaki : An Unsung national Hero...
At times one life span is not enough to undo the devil, At times good might fail to triumph the evil .
A bit of self study and research helped me to unravel the life of a forgotten soul whose heroic tales are only featuring in the pages of history books.
Today we are all clustered together in a highly competitive world ,where whatever the field may be we have to be the best or else someone will take over. Rapid population growth and recessionary trends in market, constantly bullying our minds .To counter this we find the youngsters of today's modern India are being wisely counseled by their guardians, teachers and others in order to assist them in choosing the right path ..The hunt for the suitable career commences right from teens. Keeping the present hectic condition in mind , lets consider the pre - independence era for sometime , where our valiant countrymen clustered together and fought various vigorous battles to attain one common goal "freedom for the masses ".
Surprisingly , in that era the youth did not face any competition from anywhere as they welcomed the sense of brotherhood and the spirit of harmony among themselves. They did not possess any materialistic greed as their life was totally surrendered to our mother land .
Today's youth and yesteryear's youth are so drastically different , although few traits like innocence, love, share and self belief remained the same.
Now lets unfold a lion -hearted tale of a youth where the good failed to triumph the evil .
Prafulla Chaki , a Revolutioner was born on 10 th december 1888 in Bogra district of Bihar. He died on 30th April 1908 near the Mokama ghat railway station. Prafulla Chaki was only 19 years and 104 days old by the time he took his last breathe. He gallantly ended his life at such a tender age, that posed an alarming message for all the teenagers in his era. But do we think that just a self sacrificed death can make Prafulla Chaki a worth remembering hero ?. Where as in modern India, each day we are so very accustomed with the news of teenagers committing suicide, either due to educational pressure or love issues.
But thats not the entire scenario.
Prafulla Chaki was de-linked from his school " Rangpur Zilla School ",due to his participation in the student's demonstration which interrupted the Carlisle circular of the government of East Bengal and Assam. After being expelled Prafulla then joined "Rangpur National School", where he interacted with various
revolutionaries of his time .With the passage of time , young Prafulla geared himself for the war and pride of our mother land India.
It's so daunting to find Prafulla, a guy in his early teens leaving all his childly desires aside and stepping up in the revolutionary field .Again comparing this with the present modern India , guys of his age are seen with studying , attending tuitions , playing with playstations, using various social networking sites to keep themselves busy..
Prafulla was then brought to Calcutta where he was granted the participation in Jugantar party. His first step towards the revolution came when he was asked to kill Sir Joseph Bampfylde Fuller, the first Lieutenant Governor of the new province of Eastern Bengal and Assam.Chaki was given the responsibility of shooting down Sir Joseph Bampfylde Fuller in Darjeeling .But the plan did not work out as the tour programme of Sir Joseph Bampfylde Fuller's got cancelled. This was a huge setback for Prafulla Chaki and for the entire Jugantar party .Then Prafulla along with Khudiram Bose was entrusted with the murder of Kingsford, the magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. For this purpose Khudiram and Chaki went to Muzaffarpur. Khudiram and Chaki followed all the movements of Kingsford and sort a plan to kill and run. Chaki was determined to make this mission fruitful at any cost. Chaki and Khudiram waited and waited for the right moment to erase Kingsford. Then came the disastrious day of 30th April 1908. As mentioned earlier it was on this day of 30th Apri 1980 Chaki completed his 19 years and 104 days. In that evening Chaki along with his mate Khudiram waited near the European Club for the vehicle of Kingsford .As soon as the carriage came out of the gate, they threw a bomb into the carriage. Both Khudiram and Prafulla fled after the bomb blast .The vehicle was carrying kingsford's wife and his daughter. The main target Kingsford sadly was not present in the carriage at the time of the blast . Kingsford's daughter died while her mother was badly injured. Khudiram and Chaki took two separate routes for themselves to escape .
Prafulla on his way reached Samastipur , where he took shelter from a railway staff named Triguna Charan Ghosh. It was Ghosh , who provided Chaki an interclass ticket in the night train for Mokama. But sadly Prafulla 's escape plan was short lived as Nandalal Banerjee, a Sub-Inspector of Police observed and followed Prafulla from Samastipur railway station.Nandalal Banerjee sent a telegraphic message to Magistrate Mr Udman at Muzaffarpur and got the permission to arrest Chaki without any delay .When the train halted at the Mokama Ghat railway station , Nandalal Banerjee did not waste any time and approached fiercely towards Prafulla Chaki. Prafulla sensed danger and started running for his life. He was too young and valiant to opt for surrender. His life with all his future plans were now depending on this survival race..His young heart carried loads of dreams which are yet to be conquered.
But sadly our daunting hero was caught and was asked to surrender .Like the escaping sprint , his revolutionary dreams were thus shortlived. But valiant Prafulla did not surrender, he took out his own revolver and within a blink of an eye fired two deadly shots in his head and surrendered his life to our mother land.
The thought provoking concept over here was how a 19 year old guy welcomed death at ease ?
Coming back to the present modern India we are all self independent , we have the right , the freedom to live a life the way we want. Youngsters are earning and trying their best to stabilise their life in the most beautiful way .But somehow do we really have the time and the intention to care or feel for the amount of blood our great fore fathers have lost in order to bring up the present independent India . .
.It is very often that we are inspired while going through these biographies and for a moment we seem to pause and salute these great men .But it's also very pathetic to see how we erase them from our minds so easily with time.
Prafulla Chaki a teenager who had so much promise, carried firm audacity and dedication to demolish the evilish grasp of the britishers from our mother land but sadly failed to achieve his goal .He died unsuccessfully. He along with Khudiram killed an innocent girl which was a complete misfortune. But taking nothing away from this teenager , here we must admit the fact that "everything is fair in love and war " and Prafulla tried his best but sadly things did not work out the way he imagined.
Prafulla Chaki's death engraved the "do or die" appeal for all ages of all generations.
Now its up to us , how we remember Prafulla Chaki "a hero in his era ,now an unsung hero " or "a hero in his era , now an inspirer" is left for us to decide .
